Suggestions/ideas for informal wedding reception?

Getting married in March...very informal plans (courthouse ceremony with immediate family only in the morning and dinner with open bar for family and friends at a restaurant in the evening). We are looking for any nontraditional ideas to make the dinner feel more like a celebration, and I'm curious what the opinion is about sending evites to friends, and regular invitations to family....Thanks!
