If I pay for police and fireman, why can't i pay for your health too?
I just saw a question that was quickly deleted about people paying their "fair share" for health care even if they can't afford it. I think that's unfair- the only way we can survive as a species is to apply some level of community in our lifestyles. My house has never burned down, I've never been robbed, I have never had someone in my family murdered. I don't have children in school, I didn't use the public school system, and I am not retired or over 55. All of these things I pay taxes on, I support these institutions even though I am not in immediate need. But if your sister was murdered, I am happy to pay a part of the investigation so that you are not burdened with the unbearable cost. If your children need an education, I am happy to pay a piece so that they become literate and successful. If your house burns down, I am happy to pay a piece of the fireman's salary- even though I am not directly affected. People are sometimes afraid of socialized health care...why?
