Question about media coverage and commentators regarding the Westboro Baptist Church and Fred Phelps?

I noticed that when Fred Phelps and his cult picket military funerals it tends to get media coverage. I agree that we should show the world how evil and monstrous Phelps and his cronies are, especially toward the families of our fallen heroes. What I don't understand is this. Why doesn't there seem to be the same outrage and news coverage when he protests at AIDS victims funerals or those of prominent gay or pro-gay people? I don't ever remember seeing such coverage when it came to a victim of AIDS (Phelps does protest at such funerals), only at military funerals.
