What type of music do most people like in the US?

It like, how come the dixie chicks (however you spell that) won most of the awards at the grammys. In my opinion country is not as popular as hop hop or even pop music. I haven't heard a country album sell more than a hip hop album. I just would like to hear your opinion on this.
